Performed by Darlington Quartet with Tonya Lemoh (piano)
The Darlington Quartet joins WAAPA’s marvellous new Head of Piano, Tonya Lemoh, to play Shostakovich’s multi-faceted Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57. Shostakovich wrote the quintet for himself to play with his friends and colleagues in the Beethoven Quartet, joking that it would enable him to go on tour with them and ‘see the world as well'. This concert opens with Mendelssohn’s radiant String Quartet No. 1 in E-flat major, Op. 12, written when the composer was still a teenager.
