Music Director: Stewart Smith
Performed by: Classical Piano students and staff
Founded in 1728, John Broadwood & Sons are arguably the world’s most successful piano makers. This concert celebrates the 200th anniversary of WAAPA’s recently restored 1824 Broadwood grand, an instrument almost identical to that owned by Beethoven. In addition staff and students perform on an 1876 Broadwood grand and on a domestic piano by Beethoven’s great rival, Muzio Clementi, as Stewart Smith – in a tale involving the East India Company, Haydn’s flute player and the Inaugural Vice Chancellor of London University – recounts what is known of each instrument.
